National E-content development workshops

In furtherance of the objectives of enabling more staff to participate in the e-content development programme, the staff trained during the regional workshop were required to organise national workshops in their respective countries. This way, we would achieve the multiplier effect of the skills that were developed and bring many more staff into the e-learning content development programme.

Two workshops are planned. One in Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia and another one to be facilitated by the National University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. Both of these training workshops shall be organised and facilitated by staff who were trained in the programme.

e-Content development workshops

An e-content development pilot workshop was held at the University of Nairobi in October 2003. This workshop provided an opportunity to asses a training curriculum for meeting content development objectives. It is in this context that the programme designed a sequence of activities to be followed in order to realise the objective of duplicating the expertise and manpower gained. First, was the development of an e-learning CD followed by organising National and regional e-content development training programmes.

The e-Learning CD

In order to reduce the learning curve and bring more people into the programme, a self-learning CD on how to develop e-content has been developed and distributed to about one hundred (100) staff from fifteen (15) countries represented by twenty three (23) universities. About half of these followed the course from which 20 were selected to attend a regional workshop on e-learning materials training and development in Kigali, Rwanda. Participants to the workshop were selected from among those that had performed well in an exam that was provided at the end of the course on the CD. Other considerations during the selection process included regional balancing and area of discipline.

The CD provided a good introduction to the process of e-content development.
